Under Colorado law, Colorado Revised Statutes section 42-4-1606 requires a driver involved in a motor vehicle accident to file a written traffic accident report if the accident results in injury or death, or if property damage to any one person appears to be one thousand dollars or more, and a law enforcement officer does not investigate the accident.
The report must be submitted to the Colorado Department of Revenue within ten days of the accident and may be completed by the driver or by an authorized representative such as an insurance company or legal representative.
This reporting requirement applies in addition to any reports made to law enforcement or insurance providers.
