The Pennsylvania Department of Transportation (PennDOT) and the Pennsylvania State Police maintain official crash records for the Commonwealth. Under Pennsylvania law, Title 75 of the Vehicle Code requires that any law enforcement officer who investigates a motor vehicle crash involving injury, death, or property damage must submit a written crash report to PennDOT within 15 days after the crash. If no law enforcement officer responds to the scene, the driver involved must forward a written accident report (Form AA-600) to PennDOT within five days of the crash. These reports help ensure that crash information is properly documented and maintained by the Commonwealth.
